Marco’s Pizza is rapidly growing with new stores opening across the United States and a plan to increase its presence internationally by late 2020. More than two years ago, the pizza chain made its Louisiana debut and is a testament to the corporation’s development rate.
The third Marco’s Pizza in northwest Louisiana opened this month at 1701 Jimmie Davis Highway in Bossier City.
Franchisee Paul Singh and his wife, Poonam, have invested in expanding the pizza chain after popular demand by south Bossier residents, he said. The entrepreneur said he received feedback from many customers who live in south Bossier and had to travel to north Bossier or south Shreveport to pick up an order.

“You realize that area must be good for the brand to open,” Singh said.
Singh can relate to the diners who want more after the first bite. After the first taste of Marco’s Pizza, Singh was convinced it was a business worth the investment.
“In 2017, I got a chance to try this pizza in the Dallas area and I just completely fell in love with the food. That’s the day I decided that this product should be in our area to offer Louisiana.”
Marco’s Pizza has been in the restaurant industry well before Singh’s discovery.
In 1978, Pasquale “Pat” Giammarco founded Marco’s Pizza in Ohio. However, the recipes are rooted in Italy. Giammarco grew up making pizzas with his father after they immigrated to the United States from Sulmona, Italy. Marco’s Pizza became an outlet to share “the Italian spirit and flavors.”
Since conception, Marco’s Pizza has earned many accolades, as recent as being ranked No. 4 in Forbes “Best Franchises to Buy” 2019 Study/Medium Investment, and No. 39 on Entrepreneur’s 2019 Franchise 500 ranking. In 2018, Marco’s Pizza ranked No. 2 on Entrepreneur’s Top 200 Food and Restaurant Franchises in the pizza segment, and No. 8 on the Military Times Best: Franchises list.
The company, based in Toledo, Ohio, operates more than 900 stores in more than 34 states with locations in Puerto Rico and the Bahamas.
Singh, a 19-year Bossier City resident, has been a business owner since 2002. He owns several franchises in the region, including Church’s Chicken in Haughton.
He opened the first Marco’s Pizza in the area at 5523 Airline Dr. in north Bossier in 2018. The second opened in Camp Forbing Town Center at 9488 Ellerbe Road in south Shreveport in 2019.
Singh’s businesses employ more than 65 people across the region.
Ready to deliver
Opening and operating restaurants during the COVID-19 pandemic has come with its challenges, Singh said. The established restaurants’ business has fluctuated, and the new site’s opening was delayed by about three months due to the pandemic.

“We are all going through such a tough time, not only for ourselves, but the world is going through it. There were bumpy days,” he said. “But we understand even though we are in a pandemic we still have to eat.”
Marco’s Pizza adapted to the changes by setting COVID-19 health and sanitation guidelines and offering contactless delivery, carry-out, and curbside pick-up services.
Singh touts the restaurants’ use of “absolutely fresh ingredients,” with dough made from scratch, vegetables chopped in-house, and the signature special blend cheese is made with never-frozen cheese as details that make the products stand out among the competition.

Marco’s Pizza offers specialty pizzas and the option for customizing.
Singh’s favorite is a made-to-order Chicken Fresco pizza, closely followed by the Garden Pizza.
“Chicken Fresco is a mixture of grilled chicken, bacon, onions—you can add vegetables and all kinds of meat. It’s really something different from others,” he said.

The Garden pizza comes with mushrooms, black olives, onions, sliced tomatoes, an original sauce, the signature three-cheese blend, plus feta.
Pizza Bowls are offered as All Meat, Deluxe, and Garden.
Non-pizza items include a variety of oven-baked subs, salads, chicken wings, Chicken Dippers, and Cheezybread with choices of dipping sauces. Also, save room for the Cinnasquares—a fresh-baked, buttery pastry enhanced with a dusting of cinnamon and sugar and served with a side of vanilla icing.
