The world’s fastest man Usain Bolt is quarantining after he reportedly tested positive for coronavirus.
The Jamaican health ministry confirmed that he had tested positive last night, confirming that contact tracing was now under way.
The athlete, from Jamaica, had recently celebrated his birthday party with stars from across the spectrum of sport among those in attendance.
Videos circulated on social media showed the larger-than-life celebrity dancing with dozens of attendees at his 34th birthday party.
‘I’m trying to be responsible’
The 100m sprint world record holder had said he was quarantining in Kingston as a precaution in an Instagram post.
“Good morning everybody. Just waking up and like everybody, checked social media and saw that social media’s saying I’m confirmed to have Covid-19,” he said.
“I did a test on Saturday, because I have work. I’m trying to be responsible, so I’m gonna stay in and stay here for my friends.
“Also I’m having no symptoms, so I’m going to quarantine myself and wait on the confirmation to see what is the protocol on how I should go about quarantining myself from the Ministry of Health.
“Just to be safe, I’ll quarantine myself and just take it easy.”
Jamaica has recorded 1,612 cases and 16 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
Over 350 cases were recorded from August 20 to August 24, with Bolt’s party taking place on August 21 at a sports complex in Kingston.
Who was at Usain Bolt’s party?
Manchester City confirmed that star forward Raheem Sterling was among those in attendance at Bolt’s surprise birthday bash.
The Jamaican-born England star was also joined by Bayer Leverkusen star Leon Bailey and West Indies cricket legend Chris Gayle.
Sterling has since tested negative for coronavirus and is expected to join up with Gareth Southgate’s England side ahead of their Nations League fixtures against Iceland and Denmark.
Sterling would be required to return a negative test before linking up with England or Man City.
Cricketer Chris Gayle also confirmed that he had received a negative test following his attendance at the party. The West Indies legend is set to feature in the Indian Premier League, which launches in the UAE on September 19.
